Tell Me More!

The public medical system here in Italy is a big blessing to us! Without it we would sometimes have to go without medical care. It’s not that these services are free; our taxes are very high. But regular doctor visits, hospital stays, surgeries, and most prescriptions have no out-of-pocket costs. And even the fees for specialist visits and exams are not high.

But it’s our family dottoressa we most value. Even though we mostly seem to amuse her with our foreign ways and ideas! She greatly disapproves that we mostly take herbal remedies, in place of pharmaceuticals, saying “That herbal stuff is all witchcraft!” I need to ask her if she drinks chamomile tea! 😉

But in spite of the fact that ‘we foreigners’ provide entertainment, she really does seem to appreciate us. She often questions us about our faith. And has even asked us for advice. Because, in her words, “Your relationship is still so wonderful after all these years, and since I’m not married, I need advice for a married couple with serious problems.”

Not that we’re the perfect couple! Far from it. Nor do we have all the answers, or the ten secrets to a good marriage! Even after 39 years, we’re still learning! No, I share this simply as an encouragement.

Because I think we all wonder how to testify of our faith. What to say? And when?

Well, we really haven’t said a lot to this doctor. But we live in a hurting world, hungry for peace and joy. And when others see these things in us, they will seek us out, saying, “Tell me more!”

Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom, (James 3:13).

Do you try to witness for Christ wherever you go? And sometimes even use words?
